Will College Football end up being postponed?

A source tells Pat Forde that "by the end of the week the fall sports will be postponed in all conferences". A few other media people have also confirmed that there are legit talks about this like Brett McMurphy and Ross Dellenger. I guess we'll see this week... There's a legit growing sense that this will happen. This sucks. https://twitter.com/RossDellenger/status/1292148422007496706?s=19

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey says SEC will wait to make a final decision for Football.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey says the SEC will wait until the final possible hour to make a decision. He will take all the info from experts and wait as long as he can before making a decision on a football season. He was asked Tuesday night on College Football Live if he had a specific time in mind when to make a decision. "I haven't put a deadline on it." Sankey continued, "The challenge right now is to understand where that finish line may be." Mark Emmert says COVID-19 data is pointing in the wrong direction in terms of fall sports.

NCAA President Mark Emmert says that the current Coronavirus data points in the wrong direction for sports: "When we made the extremely difficult decision to cancel last spring’s championships it was because there was simply no way to conduct them safely. This document lays out the advice of health care professionals as to how to resume college sports if we can achieve an environment where COVID-19 rates are manageable. Today, sadly, the data point in the wrong direction. If there is to be college sports in the fall, we need to get a much better handle on the pandemic." In terms of immediate recommendations, the NCAA Sport Science Institute released the following guidelines: Daily self-health checks. The appropriate use of face coverings and social distancing during training, competition and outside of athletics. Testing strategies for all athletics activities, including pre-season, regular season and post-season. Testing and results within 72 hours of competition in high contact risk sports Nothing real big here, and what he's trying to say is do your part in defeating the virus and cut down on cases and stuff. Wear your mask and try to socially distance. I do think there will definitely be sports in some way, just need to make sure the virus doesn't get worse. The less cases the better of course. The basketball VP said what is going on with football doesn't affect basketball, as he said a few weeks ago that basketball is going to be played in some way, and I think that's true for football too. There will be sports. Keep doing your best on cutting down on cases as it will help things and also life. There's no need to say "well there won't be sports", we just can't let the virus get worse, we need to keep the negative tests going. Via KSR

What the SEC discussed in Monday's super long meeting.

On Monday, the SEC discussed all of the plans of playing football this fall. One option as far as the season goes, is a 10-game schedule with 8 conference games and 2 non-conference games. This is just one of the many possible options that were discussed. There were a few other options though, that are said to be strong possibilities. One is an eight game conference-only schedule, and the other is a 9 or 10-game plan that would leave a spot for a game against a Power 5 conference team(probably a rival from another conference). The SEC has already lost their match-ups with Pac-12 teams after the Pac-12 announced it would go to a conference only schedule, and same with the BIG 10. The league is hoping to save it's Power 5 conference games that are left, especially the rivalry games with certain teams with the SEC. An 8-game conference-only schedule would probably be the best choice because of the flexibility and it's a lesser chance of a team backing out of a game because of a positive test, but it depends who the teams are and if there is a bad outbreak where they are. A 10-game schedule is less likely to gain support because it's more strict than a 8 game conference-only schedule because you would have to add 2 more teams from the other division which could cause issues with travel or other things. A 9-game schedule is getting a pushback from league members, one SEC AD told Sports Illustrated. Sports Illustrated says the more preferred plans are 9 or 10-game schedule with 1 or 2 non-conference games. But the issues with these have to do with the testing differences with every conference. The NCAA and Power 5 conferences are working on a minimum testing idea that is expected to be released next week, SEC officials told Sports Illustrated. They say in the SEC, a conference-only schedule "is certainly higher in the mix from the tone in the room", one high-ranking official told Sports Illustrated. On the other hand, many SEC leaders are against a spring season, saying "it's last resort" and "it's not going to work." Anyway, the SEC will make a final decision on what they're doing, in the end of July. Info via Sports Illustrated.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey confirms that the SEC will make a final decision on football in late July

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey confirms today that late July is when we will have a final decision on football this fall. "It is clear that current circumstances related to COVID-19 must improve and we will continue to closely monitor developments around the virus on a daily basis. In the coming weeks, we will continue to meet regularly with campus leaders via videoconferences and gather relevant information while guided by medical advisors. We believe that late July will provide the best clarity for making the important decisions ahead of us." He said on SEC Network today, “We have to see a change in public health trends.” SEC commissioner Greg Sankey also gave an update on idea of conference-only schedule: “We are not at that destination and a number of our colleague conferences are not at that destination."
